They say the the giving birth is one of the most beautiful experiences life has to offer. However, we must remember that it is also one of the most jeopardizing experiences a mother and the newborn baby could ever go through. There are so many potential complications that giving birth can include. It could be hazardous to both the mom and the baby. This applies to all mammals. So when this dog refused to give birth, the need for a doctor was crucial. When the vet go to work, something miraculous would happen...
So if you look at the photo above, you can see that there is one thing they obviously have in common. These two both have a passion and a love for animals! And there had always been a problem for this lady named Mariesa had in her past. She had revealed in an interview that the relationships she was in before, would fail to work out because of the overwhelming love she has for animals.
And so, her previous partners would never understand why she was always too involved with her pets. Her past relationships would always dwindle due to the fact that she wants a large family of four-legged friends! However, in due time, she met Chris, and the two fell more in love with each other day after day because they both adore dogs so much.
We all know that everywhere, the problem of strays has become overwhelming. There are so many shelters and rescues where the population of dogs and cats have reached heights. All these places want to save every pet but this is impossible to do. When these two went to their local shelter, they noticed one strange thing. The dog shelter was full of one breed, pit bulls!
Since, they loved dogs so much, this couple would often go and visit shelters. So this time, Mariesa and Chris dropped a visit to Pibbles & More Animal Rescue -- or PMAR. They were so happy to be surrounded by all the wagging tails and adorable faces. Since these two loved animals especially dogs like family, they absolutely enjoyed being around them. They were in for a life-changing surprise.
There are so many dogs that have a reputation of being mischievous and a little wild. And among these breeds, it is no secret that pit bulls are a breed of dog that is misunderstood quite a lot. With their big head and muscular bodies, these dogs are indeed ferocious. They are seen as dangerous dogs wherein pit bull are even illegal in several states.
And as dog lovers, Chris and Mariesa know this very well, that pit bulls are a little more fearsome than other breeds of dogs. These two have indeed adopted pits, however, them being seen as a big problem is something they could not wrap their heads around. Their only wish was to be able to offer some help to these poor dogs. They had no clue the kind of experience they would be dealing with.
And pit bulls are indeed notorious for being a little hard to tame. And there have been so many signs that this breed of dog is one of the most dangerous, but to identify them as the most dangerous breed is not quite accurate. We must remember that pitbulls are a breed that is loyal, caring and loving. How they behave is heavily dependent on how the owners treat them.
However, because of a few incidents where pit bulls have behaved wildly, many people have been convinced that these dogs should be feared and categorized just on the basis of their strong appearance. There is no clear proof that these dogs are all fearsome and vicious. So Chris and Marisea were about to meet one dog that would make them fall in love...
So when the couple went around the shelter, they felt immense happiness because the dogs there were so warm and showed appreciation. As it is that the couple loves dogs, so to see them get excited because of their visit was truly heartwarming. When they toured inside the shelter, Mariesa started to realize that this would be a difficult decision to make...
And before they went to the shelter, Mariesa had always spoken about what she would do when they went there. She had made a promise to Chris that from the shelter, she would only pick one dog to take back home with them. Then as she looked around the shelter, she saw one dog that took her attention right away. As soon as she saw it from the corner of her eyes, she knew what to do next.
Mariesa scanned across the shelter and there was a dog that stood out from the rest of the pack. This dog was plentifully pregnant. So when this dog saw that this lady noticed her, she hurried with her full blown belly to come and greet the couple excitedly. This dog was a gorgeous brindle Pit Bull. When she came close, she licked Mariesa's hand and took over her heart immediately.
And when the pup got close, she looked deep into Mariesa's eyes as if she was pleading the lady to take her away. Mariesa after meeting this pregnant dog turned towards Chris with a look that obviously screamed: "She's the one." There was no chance for the other dogs anymore. However, when they approached the employees there, she was left in shivers...
And after they went and asked the staff about the pregnant dog's history, the couple got to learn a lot. They found out that this pregnant Pit Bull's name was Storie, and she had given away by a backyard breeder. Her previous owner found out that she became pregnant and since they could not afford to care for her and her babies, they had no choice.
The couple had already chosen the pup from the shelter but soon realized that she needed to be rushed home. Since the pitbull was a mother-to-be, she would need to be given the comfort she required. The couple did not have a single clue about the circumstance they were getting themselves into. And after going to the vet, Storie's case was something that brought tears in Chris and Mariesa's eyes.
So when they went to the vet, the couple grew a little alarmed. When they were at the shelter, the people working there had already informed the couple that Storie was supposed to have given birth a week back already, but she still did not go into labor yet. And because of this, they were shocked that it had not happened until then.
And so since the pup's belly had grown so big, everyone was concerned that something might go wrong. It was certainly unnatural for this to be happening. And Storie appeared like she was ready to give birth any minute. The staff had a worried look on each of their faces, so it was not hard for Chris and Mariesa to understand the kind of pain the precious dog was in.
There was one thing truly essential that Storie needed, time. She also required some professional help too. And so when they were starting to panic, Storie then placed her head onto Mariesa's knee. She then stared at her with her big brown eyes. Mariesa could tell that there was something the dog was trying to tell her. Mariesa knew that this was it.
So after that incident, it was clear that something big was about to happen. However, since they agreed on taking only one dog, if they took Storie, it would automatically mean them getting a litter of six puppies too. So would they be able to handle the situation? They had never even imagined that this was going to lead them to experience something even greater.
So even though Mariesa immediately had a connection with the pregnant pitbull, if they took home Storie and her puppies, this would mean that the couple would take care of a whopping 17 dogs! But Mariesa had already made her choice. It was not right for her to leave Storie here at the shelter anymore. She had to help the poor dog. Just then, Chris came up with a brilliant idea.
And so, what Chris suggested was that the two of them should foster Storie and that the shelter should help look for a forever home for her and her puppies. This seemed like a good plan and so they followed through with this. However, there was still a major issue here. Since Storie's due date had crossed, when would she be giving birth? Was the dog going to be okay?
The couple could not comprehend the reason behind this dog refusing to go into labor. What was taking so much time? Their previous dogs never had this kind of a problem which made it even more confusing. They could not help but wonder what would happen if things went wrong. There were no answers on the internet for clues too. Whatever they found made them sick.
We often underestimate how smart dogs are. As they did some research regarding Storie, the couple found an article that made some sense. The article had revealed that some dogs go through so much stress and trauma in a shelter that takes a toll on them, especially when they are pregnant. They did now know how things would unfold so they remained scared and nervous.
When they did some more digging, they realized that this situation could get even more complicated than it already was. If she did not go into labor soon, the puppies might die. And something else made Mariesa shriek. Dogs often hold birthing their pups if they are not certain that their surrounding is safe. This can be lethal for both mother and puppies. They needed a vet and soon...
The vet then made use of ultrasound. What was discovered was something the vet could not believe as she studied the shapes that were formed on the screen. She had initially thought a mistake had been made. There was a faint white outline on the screen. She then gave news to Mariesa and Chris that made their hearts sink. Was something wrong with Storie?
The vet checked the ultrasound in detail and then told the couple a surprising news. There were not six puppies in Storie's belly like they had initially thought. The vet then counted the shapes on the screen... and stopped. Mariesa looked at the doctor in disbelief. Storie did not have 6 puppies in her belly. So how many were there then?
The vet was in shock to see what was there on the screen. The concerned look soon turned into a wide smile as the vet looked at Chris and Mariesa. The news was something that made the couple jump for joy. "There aren't six puppies, but twelve!" Chris and Mariesa were stunned and exchanged a look of shock. But the biggest question was whether Storie was fine or not...
The vet was also perplexed by this whole situation. The puppies seemed to be doing well. But they should have already been born by now. So the vet told the couple to take their dog home and if within 48 hours, the dog does not give birth, they should quickly bring Storie again to get another examination. But Storie had a plan of her own that no one knew...
Even though they were sent home, Chris and Mariesa did not feel better. Storie was in deep threat if she did not give birth within 48 hours of being sent home. The dog would be in extreme danger if the puppies did not come out soon. Mariesa was terribly concerned for Storie, but what could have she done? But soon, at home, an idea came to her...
Because they saw on the internet that stress and trauma delays birth for dogs, the couple thought it would be a good idea to make a comfortable space for Storie. To give a feeling of protection and comfort, they arranged a few pillows and cushions for the dog. They were hoping their efforts would facilitate the birth of Storie's puppies. And when they went off to bed, the miracle took place.
Mariesa and Chris had gone to bed after making the space as comfortable as they can for Storie . Then during the night, the miracle happened. When they got up in the morning, Storie was nursing all twelve of her puppies who all appeared active and healthy. They were glad to see that their dog had finally felt safe to give birth. They also discovered why Storie waited this long...
“Dogs having puppies at shelters, it’s not the best thing for them. It’s stressful for her, stressful for the puppies,” Chris found out later. Storie did not want to give birth to her puppies unless and until she found her environment to be safe and harmless. Mariesa and Chris taking her home and giving her love and affection was just what the dog needed.
So in a span of less than 24 hours, Storie gave birth to her puppies in the couple's home. This was truly a miracle as the couple did not know what was to happen or what they should expect. She only wished for a warm and loving environment which Chris and Mariesa provided for her. All 12 puppies came out adorable and happy which made all the hassle worth it in the end.
After the second week at home, the puppies could now open their eyes. There was no doubt about Mariesa and Chris falling more in love with the cute pups. And in just a matter of days, the puppies were able to walk around, shakily, the premises of the house. Storie seemed to be glad her puppies were healthy and that she was in a loving home and out of the shelter.
Even though the couple fell in love with each and every puppy, they had to be practical. They knew they would not be able to keep any, and so they managed to find loving homes for all of them. After they turned 10 weeks old, one by one, the puppies left for their new homes, where they were continued to be showered with love. So what ever happened to Storie?
Storie ended up in her forever home too. There was a man who by chance came across Storie's incredible tale on Facebook, and this person wanted to meet her. When they met, he knew he had to keep Storie, so he took her home. She is living a very healthy and happy life and is now sterilized to make sure she does not need to go through the horrific experience again ever...
Storie after giving birth to all her 12 pups, was indeed a superb mother to all of them. She enjoyed licking them all over and to nurse them. Chris and Mariesa would stare at the devotion this mama showed. After going through so much, she now felt complete safety and was living her best life. However, it was a challenge to find a home for all 12 pups.
